Kaia Fit Petaluma has influenced my life in positive ways. Since joining Kaia, I feel physically fit and mentally confident. Ten months ago, I was overweight and felt sluggish most of the time. I knew I needed to make some life changes, and when I heard about Kaia I gave it a try. The environment was supportive and encouraging, not judgmental. I loved that the coaches demonstrated three ways to do each exercise to accommodate various fitness levels. In the beginning, I could only do the basic level, which could have been embarrassing elsewhere, but not at Kaia. My Kaia sisters were always there to cheer me on: Nothing but good vibes. I enjoyed that the workouts were always different and never boring. Our Saturday Hike-Jog-Runs changed me from being a walker to a runner. I never saw myself as someone who runs, but I ran my first 5k a few months ago and plan on running another in a few weeks. It’s so cool to be a person who can say, “I’m running a 5K this weekend.” Altogether, I have lost about forty pounds and I feel strong. Shopping for new clothes was the best. Besides physical changes, I experienced a change in mindset. I learned that my workout time is non-negotiable and that it’s okay to have time for myself. I learned better nutrition habits like drinking more water, eating less sugar, and not drinking so much vino. I already knew these tips, but now I actually follow them. I learned to write down my goals and to be sure that these goals were measurable and attainable. The Kaia attitude impacted other aspects of my life too. I do more outdoor activities like biking, kayaking, and hiking. I park my car farther away from my destination, just to get a few more steps in. I even joined a dance troupe a few months ago and performed at a Giants’ game and in the San Francisco Carnaval Parade. Kaia helped me gain the confidence to dance in a bikini in front of thousands of people! I never would of done that a year ago. Recently, I started a Girls on the Run team at my school, which will provide social/emotional lessons and physical fitness activities for third through fifth grade girls after school. Thanks to Kaia, I now have the energy and the desire to take on these additional responsibilities. Altogether, Kaia provided a strong social connection with other women, pushed me to be my personal best, and was always fun. I have more energy, I sleep soundly, and I feel confident to take on new challenges. I will never tire of hearing Coach Catherine’s closing yoga mantra, “You are strong, you are beautiful, and you are right where you need to be.” I know that I am right where I need to be.
